Abstract.  Complexity, as many notions, is understood by opposition to another notion, simplicity. In this talk we will try to go beyond this dichotomic opposition using the theory of the square of opposition, a simple theory that can fruitfully be used to understand complex situations.  We will start by explaining this theory, in particular by giving a variety of  examples,  and then we will show  how it can usefully be applied to give a good understanding of what complexity is.
