Katherine Mast

Communications Manager

Katie Mast is a science writer and editor. As SFI's Communications Manager, she produces stories about the research at SFI. She manages a pool of freelance writers and produces SFI’s monthly e-newsletter and quarterly printed newsletter.

Prior to joining SFI’s Communications team, Katie worked with the SFI Press, where she specialized in layout and editing, with a focus on converting print-ready texts into reflowable e-books.

Katie holds a B.A. in environmental studies and writing from Goshen College. Her career includes experience as an environmental educator, paralegal to a criminal defense attorney, and web content specialist for the City of Albuquerque. She found her way to science writing while working at the ABQ BioPark, a zoo, aquarium, and botanic garden. Following an editorial internship at High Country News, Katie worked as a freelance writer and fact-checker for outlets including Discover, Sierra, Mosaic, and Knowable.
