Katherine Mast
Publications Manager
Katie Mast is a science writer and editor, currently serving as the Publications Manager at the Santa Fe Institute. She produces stories about the research at SFI, covering science meetings, research papers, incoming postdoctoral fellows and faculty, and more. She manages a pool of freelance writers and produces SFI’s monthly e-newsletter and quarterly printed newsletter.
Prior to joining SFI’s Communications team, Katie worked with the SFI Press, where she specialized in layout and editing, with a focus on converting print-ready texts into reflowable e-books.
Katie holds a B.A. in environmental studies and writing from Goshen College. Her career includes experience as an environmental educator, paralegal to a criminal defense attorney, and web content specialist for the City of Albuquerque. She found her way to science writing while working at the ABQ BioPark, a zoo, aquarium, and botanic garden. Following an editorial internship at High Country News, Katie worked as a freelance writer and fact-checker for outlets including Discover, Sierra, Mosaic, and Knowable.
