In May 2016, the independent charity evaluator Charity Navigator updated its rating methodology. SFI maintains the highest possible rating under the new rating system, which recognizes the Institute’s governance, fiscal management, and commitment to accountability and transparency.

The ratings certify that SFI manages its operations and its mission in the most responsible and transparent manner, and they emphasize to existing donors and prospective supporters that SFI is worthy of their investment.
The Institute also maintains the highest rank (“Gold” status) in the charity database GuideStar.
