Director, Sponsored Research Development and Administration

Elisabeth Johnson, who joined SFI in 2007, is Director of Sponsored Research Planning and Administration, responsible for planning and developing Institute-wide research programs, identifying funding for faculty research projects, preparing proposals, and managing post-award administration. She handles ongoing relations with federal and state funding agencies, as well as private foundations. Elisabeth came to SFI from UCLA, where she was Director of Corporate, Foundation and Research Relations for the Professional Schools. Prior to that, she directed the university’s Strategic Research Initiative to expand research funding for faculty in the humanities, social sciences, and arts.

Since coming to Santa Fe, Elisabeth has not looked back. Aside from enjoying her work at the Institute, she volunteers with the Santa Fe Master Gardener’s Association on the historic El Zaguán garden restoration project and on the Santa Fe Native Plant Project. She satisfies her interest in cooking through participation in the local Slow Food ‘dinner and a book’ group, and also finds time to pursue hiking and the many cultural offerings in Santa Fe.
