Vijay Ullal

The Santa Fe Institute’s Board of Trustees welcomes Vijay Ullal as a new member. Ullal, founder and CEO of Seabed VC, was elected to the Board during the Institute’s annual Applied Complexity Network and Trustees Symposium on November 10, 2019.

Ullal started Seabed VC, a venture capital firm based in San Francisco, in 2015. Seabed prides itself on investing in ideas that many mainstream VCs typically avoid. Ullal is an early investor in Wyre, Passage AI, Bounce, Zenith Aerospace, where he serves on the board, as well as several other tech startups.

Previously, Ullal worked as an engineering manager at Intel and Saratoga Semiconductor, a group president at Maxim Integrated Products, and the President and COO of Fairchild Semiconductor. As the Group President of Consumer and Automotive Solutions at Maxim, he oversaw the definition, development, and marketing of technology solutions, including highly integrated analog and mixed-signal products, for the consumer and automotive end markets. As President and COO of Fairchild, Mr. Ullal was responsible for Business Units, Sales and Marketing, and Operations and Technology Development.

Ullal holds a B.S. from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and an M.S. from Drexel University both in chemical engineering. He was a board member of the MIT Sandbox Innovation Fund and the Chairman of the Board at IIT Madras Foundation, where he is currently Chairman Emeritus. Ullal is married to Jayshree Ullal, the president and CEO of Arista Networks. They have two daughters and live in the Bay Area.
