Ricard Sole

An SFI working paper by External Professor Ricard Solé and collaborator Sergi Valverde proposes a model for tracing the evolution of computer programming languages.

Their model uses network theory to track the historical lineages of languages such as Java, Perl, and Python. The authors propose that modern programming languages, which are combinations of previous languages, are a good case study for understanding the evolution of technology.
