Abstract. In this talk, I will describe our new EPSRC funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) at Imperial College London, entitled Mathematics of Planet Earth (MPE) http://mpecdt.org/. The MPE CDT will recruit a cohort of sixteen new PhD students each year for the next five years. I will discuss the types of problems in climate change and weather variability that we hope to train our PhD students to be able to address.
