Abstract. The goal of this working group is to gain insight into the co-evolution of genotypes and communication systems ranging from human languages to signaling systems in microbial communities. Our initial question is the effect of social structure on these processes, in light of the consequences for drift and selection. This question is relevant for the evolution of all naturally evolving systems of communication.
