Our campus is closed to the public for this event.
I will present some recent research on the economic impacts of climate change in India and discuss the implications for Indian government policy. The impacts of climate change in the last few decades on the economy have been severe but hardly anyone outside of a tiny circle of economists working on the issue is aware of this. Future impacts will of course be much worse. In addition to strengthening current adaptation and mitigation policies, the Indian government should advocate for research on and contingency plans for deployment of solar radiation modification on an urgent basis. I will also comment on the possible lessons of the Indian case for the global challenge of climate change mitigation.
