Zappo's Founder and Philanthropist Tony Hsieh in Santa Fe

A Lecture and Dialogue with SFI Distinguished Professor Geoffrey West

In 2011, Zappo's CEO Tony Hsieh announced a $350 million effort called The Downtown Project to rejuvenate Las Vegas' downtown, home to some lower-end casinos and motels and not a whole lot else. His plan is to spend much of his own personal fortune to transform this lifeless area about a mile north of the neon blitz of the Strip into a thriving, vibrant, and connected urban core. Hsieh will discuss his ambitious project, successes and challenges along the way, and lessons Santa Fe might learn from this extraordinary urban experiment. Following the short lecture, Hsieh will join SFI Distinguished Professor Geoffrey West for a freewheeling discussion on the science of cities — which West has described as "cauldrons of innovation, ideas, and wealth creation."

This event is hosted by the Santa Fe Institute, Creative Santa Fe, and St. John's College. Tickets are required and are available through Tickets Santa Fe and at the Lensic box office. Please note that this lecture is not part of SFI's Community Lecture Series and starts at 6:00 PM.

This event will sell out quickly. We recommend you purchase tickets as soon as possible.
