Abstract:  Allometric scaling is a well-known universal pattern in biology. However, is it true for other systems? In this talk, I'd like to introduce my work on trying extending this pattern to other systems such as countries, human online behaviors and weighted food webs. First, our empirical study showed that countries as bigger units of human society exhibit allometric scaling, however the exponents are very different from cities'. Second, to open the black box one step further, we focus on building a connection between the distributions and allometric scaling in human online behaviors. Finally, we will look at the network structure on weighted food webs as energy transportation networks. The allometric scaling pattern appears again if some specific approaches are applied.
