All day
A team of SFI and SFI-adjacent people—legal scholars, legal practitioners, and computer scientists—are presenting on AI in the Justice System at a National Judicial College event on Tuesday June 9: https://judges.org/njs/the-national-judicial-summit-the-foundation-and-future-of-the-judiciary/ Andrea Roth (Berkeley Law) and Marc Canellas (Maryland Public Defender) are experts on machine-generated evidence, such as forensic evidence from facial recognition cameras, acoustic systems like ShotSpotter, and DNA evidence and probabilistic genotyping. Our discussions will focus on what kinds of independent testing these systems need to ensure that they are accurate, and what kinds of transparency they need to preserve procedural justice and our Constitutional guarantees that defendants can face their accusers and contest evidence against them.
