Venue

The program is held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.

During the work week UCR studetns conduct their research at the Santa Fe Institute's (SFI) Cowan Campus. Students live at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) campus.

The IAIA campus is located in a beautiful Southwest high desert setting with mountain views, extensive walking trails, a great variety of artwork, quiet places for contemplation, and a short drive to the SFI campus. The housing arrangement is intended to balance community and rest: you are living in close proximity to the rest of the cohort, but you still have privacy and personal space. The campus itself provides access to open outdoor areas, places to walk, beautiful art, and places to be alone when you need a break.

Housing

UCR students are accommodated in student dormitories at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA). Each participant is provided with their own private room and a private bathroom (en suite). Overnight guests are not allowed.

Transportation

Weekday/workday group transportation between IAIA housing and the SFI campus is coordinated by the program. The UCR cohort is provided with van transport between IAIA and the Santa Fe Institute campuses for daily program activities.

Personal transportation in and around Santa Fe outside of program travel is not provided or reimbursed.

Students who choose to drive to Santa Fe instead of flying (for example, driving from home to participate in the program) are eligible for mileage reimbursement up to the stated reimbursement limit. Routine gas and other local personal driving during the program is not reimbursed.

Meals are not covered as part of standard travel support. Travel support is intended to cover getting you to and from the program, not daily food costs.

Extending Your Stay

You are welcome to arrive early or stay late in order to coordinate a vacation with your participation in the program. However, we are unable to offer accommodations in participant housing outside of the dates of the program, and thus accommodations for extended stays (likewise, meals, transportation, etc.) are your responsibility. Guests are not permitted to stay overnight at our program venues.

Meals and Dietary Needs

Meals provided on-site at IAIA and at SFI take dietary restrictions seriously. We make a strong effort to accommodate individual needs and restrictions in group meals. (Participants will have the opportunity to communicate those needs in advance so we can plan accordingly.)
