Job Description
We are looking for an experienced visual storyteller skilled in both videography and photography, with a deep interest in science, to join our Communications team. The ideal candidate would have to be flexible and willing to attend evening and weekend events if required. This a part-time position, 20 hours per week, based in Santa Fe.
Core Responsibilities
- Record events and life at SFI through photos and videos
- Create videos about SFI’s research for web and social media
- Build photo essays and multimedia materials to complement SFI news
- Archive and maintain visual materials for the SFI Communications team
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong eye for visual compositions and narratives
- Experience producing and editing videos for web-based platforms
- Well-versed in communication skills
- Willingness to take initiative, collaborate, and develop concepts and ideas
- Interview skills, especially when filming scientists and researchers
- Openness to receiving constructive feedback
- Ability to work in a team
- Perform under tight deadlines
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in film studies, visual arts, communications, science or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in photography, videography, or similar role
- Ability to work in both studio and non-studio environments
- Proficiency with media software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a scientific and/or non-profit organization
- Ability to create animations, infographics, and data visualizations
- Knowledge of HTML and familiarity with content management systems
