Coalescent theory forms the basis for much of contemporary population genetics, including methods of parameter estimation and non-parametric tests based on patterns of genetic diversity. Despite its centrality to contemporary studies of molecular evolution there has been no coalescent theory textbook . . . until now! Visit here to get a sneak peek at John Wakeley's forthcoming introductory text.

Poetry

For the past ten years, I have devoted a significant chunk of my time to reading and writing poetry. My poems have been published in The Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Möbius, The Midday Moon, The River King Poetry Supplement, The Harvard Advocate, Georgia Poetry Review, Abbey, Chaffin Journal, and Moon Reader. I have studied with Peter Sacks and Jorie Graham.

Jorie's workshop has been a fantastic experience, in part because it has included a number of exceptionally talented poets. Fifty years from now, some of them are bound to be household names. So look them up now so that, when they are famous, you can claim to have been reading them way back when. Oni Buchanan's book, What Animal, is available from the University of Georgia Press. Jon Woodward's book, Mister Goodbye Easter Island has been published by Alice James Books. Joe Campana's The Book of Faces, will be coming out soon from Graywolf Press.

My own manuscript, Transistor Rodeo, has been a finalist for the National Poetry Series and a semi-finalist for the Crab Orchard Poetry Series. You can view some sample poems here.

What's this?

This page is a dumping ground for various thing that don't really fit on any of the other pages, and, truth be told, probably don't really need to be on the web at all.
