Despite the fact this web-site is based in the USA, I'm actually English,
and currently working as a scientist/manager in London for
Eurobios. We are
involved in complex systems research, consulting and product development.
Lots of exciting work in optimization, supply chain, routing, markets, etc.
In 1999
I graduated with the first PhD in Complex Systems from Harvard University,
jointly under the division of
engineering and applied sciences and the economics department. My
dissertation was entitled "Toward a theory of autonomous, optimising
agents" (read pdf,ps), supervised by Eric Maskin and Stuart
Kauffman. Click here for a
citation. It was also strongly influenced by the time I spent visiting
the Santa Fe Institute, a wonderful
interdisciplinary research center in Santa Fe. I'm interested in complex
systems, self-organisation, and the study of the global dynamics of locally
interacting economic, ecological and computational systems. Particular foci
are boundedly rational economic models and phase transitions in problem
difficulty in real world problems.

Here's a nice photo, from a few years ago now, but it seemed a good one
to try and scan (click on it for a bigger version).
