As a part of its efforts to reach out to the scientific community, SFI began publishing the Santa Fe Institute Studies in the Sciences of Complexity Series. All books are listed in the alphabetical listing.
Proceedings Volumes
Fully indexed, these are based on workshops sponsored or cosponsored by SFI. We encourage more than a collection of papers presented at the workshop. Instead, material is revised after the workshop and the editors decide what is the best way to present the material: assigned chapters covering the field, the best papers of those presented, or an introductory chapter which acts as a reading guide to the included papers.
Lecture Notes Volumes
These are primarily authored works, and often based on lectures given at home universities. However, this series has included edited volumes with assigned chapters.
Lectures Volumes
These contain both lectures given at the annual Complex Systems Summer School hosted by SFI and papers generated during the school by school participants. Although a wonderful record of the first six summer schools, these volumes tend to be very large. This series has been discontinued.
Reference Volumes
The sole entry in this series is an atlas of cellular automata; this series has also been discontinued.
Ulam Lecture Volumes
The Stanislaw Ulam Memorial Lecture series is a separate series.
