SFI External Professor Jon Wilkins  discusses his Ronin Institute, which is providing a platform for unaffiliated academics to continue to contribute to scholarly progress.

In an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education, he says academia as the sole gatekeeper for intellectual progress is no longer a valid model.

The conventional wisdom in academia is that if you're not at a university, you're no longer a scholar, says Wilkins. "Effectively, you are expected to commit career suicide. What we are doing is rejecting that conventional wisdom."
