As part of a Q&A on the Exploring Politics blog "My book in 750 words," SFI Professor Paula Sabloff says although the ideals of democracy appear to be globalized, how people see their relationships with their governments varies according to particular perspectives.

"While the Mongolians interviewed very much want the democratic ideals of human rights, political and economic rights and freedoms, they also want to practice their own kind of democracy," Sabloff says. "That is, they want a government that is more patron than partner."

Sabloff is author of Does Everyone Want Democracy? Insights from Mongolia. More about her book here.
