Stanislaw and Francoise Ulam

Francoise Aron Ulam, 93, longtime friend of SFI and late wife of Polish mathematician Stanislaw Ulam, passed away in Santa Fe on April 30, 2011.

The Ulams moved from Los Alamos to Santa Fe following Stanislaw’s involvement in the Manhattan Project.

In 1984, when her husband died, Francoise and Gian-Carlo Rota arranged for the newly organized Santa Fe Institute to receive Stanislaw Ulam's library. His collection formed the core of the present SFI library.

More about Francoise Ulam can be found in her obituary in the Santa Fe New Mexican.

Her family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Santa Fe Institute or the Richardson Center for Global Engagement.
