Darragh Nagle, one of the Santa Fe Institute's co-founders, passed away on April 22. He was 94.

Nagle was among a group of senior fellows at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the early 1980s who shared a general dissatisfaction with the stove-piped, bureaucratic, funding-centric approach to science that had taken hold both at the federal laboratories and academia -- and whose vision for an independent, transdisciplinary scientific center grew into the Santa Fe Institute.
