Former U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman has been elected to the Santa Fe Institute’s Board of Trustees for a three-year appointment.

Bingaman is a former United States Senator from New Mexico, serving in the Senate from 1983 to 2013. On February 18, 2011, he announced he would not seek re-election in 2012. 

Previously, he was Attorney General of New Mexico from 1979 to 1983.

Bingaman is a fellow of the Stanford Law School Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance.

The Santa Fe Institute’s Board of Trustees, which has the fiduciary responsibility for the Institute, oversees the Institute’s operation through its biannual meetings and its active committees that offer advice and support to SFI’s leadership.
