In an interview in Alliance magazine, SFI Distinguished Professor Geoffrey West appeals for a broader, networks-oriented view of problem solving, and philanthropy.

"There are two things I’m disappointed about in philanthropy these days," he says. "One is the reluctance to support basic research: it’s all oriented to solving very focused specific problems in specific places. We need the big picture as well as the very specific."
