Abstract. The purpose of this working group is to develop these considerations and identify consensus and differences between interpretations of the European record. To achieve this end, we bring together a small group of anthropological archaeologists, each of whom has considerable experience working within these regions of Europe. To expand comparative perspective, we invite several individuals working on social evolution in the Near East and Mesoamerica, as well as members of the SFI community working on intellectually-allied projects. We anticipate this working group will be an ideal environment to spark exchange between these scholar.
