I work in a technology R & D group at John Deere in Moline, Illinois. My main focus is modeling of software and other kinds of systems, and collaboration through the sharing of these models. I would like these models to more closely approximate the complexity of real things we deal with, to serve as tools of people who use them. I'm currently working on graph-based computing structures to represent as wide a variety of systems as possible, including complex systems that develop and evolve in ways that no fixed formal framework can deal with. I've had a long career with John Deere in engineering, manufacturing, and information systems roles. Most recently I was part of a web startup for geospatial crop production recordkeeping. In the mid-90s I was part of the core team at the Santa Fe Institute that developed the Swarm system for multi-agent simulation. My original background was mechanical engineering which I studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
