Luis Garcia-Barrios

7074Dsc00027_2 picture I am a mexican agroecologist and a senior researcher at El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (ECOSUR, a multidisciplinary research center. I research and teach postgraduate students in the Tropical Highlands of Chiapas, at the southern frontier of Mexico. My interest is to contribute to the development of an environmentally sound and socially just agriculture in indigenous-peasant tropical regions (and elsewere if possible). My main research topic is ecologically-based design of multispecies agroecosystems. The tools I have developed and used for this purpose are individual based models and simulation programs, controlled ecological experiments, field experiments and diagnostics, and participatory research. I´ve had a strong interest in nonlinear dynamics and complexity for more than a decade, and my goal is to understand it and apply it as much as possible to my theoretical, experimental and practical work on the ecology of sustainable agriculture.
