I work for the National Marine Fisheries Service as a fishery biologist. Our research group assesses the condition of the fish stocks supporting the economically important groundfish fisheries off the coast of Alaska. I began a PhD program this year to investigate how the tools for analyzing complex systems in general might be applied to develop or improve models for analysis of marine ecosystem-fisheries interactions, specifically in Gulf of Alaska federal groundfish fisheries. Some future work might be to try coupling models of ecological and economic systems to provide a tool for integrated ecosystem-based fisheries management in Alaska.
