I did my undergraduate degree in applied mathematics at the University of Cambridge and a masters degree in theoretical physics at the Universit'e Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium). I am now in the first year of a PhD at the Mathematics Institute in the University Of Warwick. We are studying the way coherent (large-scale) structures can emerge in networks of chaotic elements in the form of coupled map lattices. To do this we use ideas about phase transitions in infinite lattice systems. The aim is to find rigorous results that complement the extensive literature on numerical simulations of such systems.
