Alina Lazar

a_lazar picture I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Computer Science Department at Wayne State University, Detroit MI. The goal for of my research is to investigate and develop heuristic tools in order to extract meaningful knowledge large-scale data sets. I am particularly interested in generating evolution-based tools (Cultural Algorithms) to mine data that contains some uncertainty. I am also working, under the supervision of my advisor Dr. R. G. Reynolds, on a current NSF project on complex intelligent systems. The project involves the modeling the evolution of large-scale cultural systems. The data that we are working with comes from an archaeological survey of the Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico and the projects goal is to model the emergence of complex social structures in the valley over time, including the emergence of an archaic state and associated urban center.
