I was born in Barcelona in 1966. I completed undergraduate studies in Physics (1990) and Biology (1997) at the University of Barcelona. I joined the Complex Systems Research Group in 1998 where I found the best environment to make fun doing a challenging research. I work on evolutionary ecology under different perspectives and using different tools from analytical methods to computer simulations. My particular interest is the emergence of collective properties from large ensambles of species and individuals at different spatial and time scales. Currently I work on my PhD project on Scaling and Biodiversity in Multispecies Communities. Within this project, a new dynamical model of many interacting species in which the species are connected through a random matrix with a given connectivity is developped and studied. As a result, a new distribution of species abundances arises that suggest a simple method to measure the potential number of species that feeds a local community (a measure of biodiversity) and its intrinsic biological value (measured as its degree of isolation).
