In celebration of our two-plus decades in transforming science, we invite you to join us as a significant partner by contributing to the 25th-Anniversary Fund. Your generous gift will enable us to continue our vital work as a unique scientific research community—one that breaks down barriers between traditional disciplines, shares ideas with other institutions, and encourages practical applications of the results we achieve.
Since our founding in 1984, the Santa Fe Institute's growth and accomplishments would not have been possible without the support of individuals, leaders in business and science, and many other innovative thinkers—all of whom believed in our mission to address the most important and challenging problems facing science and society.
As SFI Cofounder George Cowan envisioned, we have indeed become an "institute on the art of survival" of our civilization and our planet. Over two decades later, the Santa Fe Institute remains true to Cowan's vision, dedicated to the belief that the most critical threats to our survival are best addressed by aggressively pursuing the fundamental science that underlies complex problems.
Today, as we stand at the frontier of 21st-century science, we hope you will join us as part of our core constituency. Your help is particularly important in our present environment, which requires urgency in scientific research that focuses on the pressing problems of climate change, violence, terrorism, epidemics, and pandemics. These major problems are profound, and we at SFI are both humbled and energized by the challenges they pose. However, such a dramatic increase in global issues means it is more essential than ever to invest in our future and attract more top minds possessing the confidence and intelligence to face existing paradigms in a deep and thoughtful manner.
Contributions to our 25th-Anniversary Fund will allow us to do this and more. Our passion for understanding, stimulating inquiry, and success in creative problem solving has proven extraordinary, practical, and effective. Therefore, in recognition of our 25th anniversary in 2009, we ask you to play an integral role by joining us as a participant in transforming science.
